New mental health toolkit for parents and carers

Understanding your child’s mental health is a new resource that offers guidance and support for parents and carers.

The public health team has worked in conjunction with partners to put together this new toolkit. It is designed to help parents and carers to think about practical ways to understand and support their children’s mental health and wellbeing. It also contains signposting information for local mental health and wellbeing services.

Supporting children with anxiety

In the previous lockdown we supported a number of different families to access well being sessions from Jigsaw Support group which is based in Thornbury. This lockdown once again as a cluster of local schools we have been given this opportunity for parents to sign up for some free courses which start this month.

Jigsaw Thornbury are running some online sessions for parents to provide some guidance and advice on supporting a child who experiences anxiety. This will consist of 3 sessions which will be an hour and a half each and will include some resources. Our school cluster has secured some places for free, so please email the school office, as soon as possible, if you’d be interested and we can send you some more information.

 Mental health webinars

There are also some free mental health webinars available this week and over the next couple of weeks on this website: https://sites.southglos.gov.uk/mind-you/webinar-series/
